Pretzel Hot Dogs

Introduction:

We get these whenever we go out to the mall all the time. So why not try making these at home this time, the outside is crunchy while the inside is juicy, cheesy and soft which makes this the perfect snack for everyone.  

Ingredients: 2 tspn active dry yeast ½ tspn sugar 1 cup warm water 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tspn salt ½ tspn baking soda ¼ tspn baking powder 2 tbsp oil 1 egg ¼ cup melted butter (regular or unsalted) 4 chicken sausages 1 cheese slice Method: For the dough- Warm up the water for 45 seconds to 1 minute, add the yeast and sugar. Mix well until fully mixed and leave aside for 7-10 minutes. In a bowl add the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda,salt, melted butter and oil. Pour the wet mixture in the dry ingredients slowly and form a dough. * If the dough is sticky, add a little bit of oil and flour and knead the dough. * If the dough is dry add a few tspns of water to the dough. Knead this dough for 7-8 minutes until smooth. Lightly oil a large bowl and place the dough in the bowl, coat the dough with oil. Cover the bowl with a plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for a 2-3 hours. * The dough shoukd double in size within the first hour but it can be kept for more hours to ferment it more and increase in size. For the Pretzel Hot Dogs: Preheat the oven on 150°C for 10 minutes. Once the dough is fermented, divide it into 4 equal small parts. On a flat surface sprinkle some flour, take a portion of the dough and knead it until smooth. Start rolling the dough with your fingers to make rope with the dough, it need to not be too thin or thick. Now take the cheese slice and cut it into 4 equal slices. Take a sausage and a cheese slice and while holding them together, wind one end of the dough to the bottom if the sausage and cheese. Now start rolling upwards diagonally and cover the sausage and cheese, there shouldn't be any space between the dough while covering the sausage. Very carefully boil the pretzel hot dogs in water for about 30 seconds to cok the sausages. Once out of the water keep on a cooling rack. Beat the egg well, brush the pretzel dogs with the egg wash and sprinkle some kosher salt or sea salt on the dough and place on a well oiled base. Bake at 180°C for 15 minutes until golden brown. And Enjoy with- mustard, ketchup or cheesy dip! Tip: If you have somedough left you can use it make some plain pretzels or even use it as pizza dough.
